Ray Haack’s legacy at Christensen Pond

Since 1956, the scenic pond on Wells Road has been open to the public for fishing, picnicking, bird-watching and assorted social gatherings thanks to the generosity of Allen and Carol Christensen, who own the property. The pond has never had an identifying sign, until now.

What I’m reading this summer

A seasonal reading moment that stands out to me each year is when I can finally take my book outside and settle into the plush, green grass. I no longer need a sweater for a walk. It’s the first time I can read outdoors comfortably again.

GLT learns deceit can sometimes be the best solution

In the spring of 2025, visitors to the Granby Land Trust’s Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve noticed something unusual at the North Marsh: an industrious group of beavers had built a dam directly beneath the footbridge. As a result, water levels rose, the marsh began to resemble a pond, and the altered flow threatened the bridge’s integrity.
The Granby Land Trust was faced with a challenge: how do we protect the marsh, and our bridge, without harming the beavers?

Memorial Day Parade: Schedule of events

Make your plans to attend Granby’s annual Memorial Day Parade and program on Monday, May 25. Parade Marshal and American Legion Post 182 Commander Cliff Burrell announced that this year’s honorary parade marshal and guest speaker is Dr. Don Rethke.

2026 Memorial Flag Dedications

The Granby Lions Club’s tradition of flying dedicated American flags in and around Granby center from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day is a tangible reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by our town’s veterans. The Lions Club continues this tradition by offering Granby residents the opportunity to dedicate one of these flags in memory of a beloved veteran, be they family or friend.

Volunteers and donations needed for Safe Grad

Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation (GPSG) has been working hard to create a memorable evening to celebrate the Class of 2026. The party, held Graduation Night (June 11), absolutely cannot happen without volunteers. The committee has done the legwork; now volunteers are needed to help with day-of-event preparation and chaperoning the party itself.

Mystery writer addresses women’s group

The speaker at the April 1 Granby Women’s Breakfast was Reverend Jane Willan, mystery writer and pastor. She discussed her mystery novel Widow’s Walk, which blends her love of storytelling and faith into a story that is filled with warmth and suspense.
