The Friends of Granby Public Libraries thanks our town for another wonderful year of the Friends’ annual book sale. The 43rd annual sale in late July was a huge success, raising more than $13,612. The book sale is by far the Friends’ largest fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds go toward helping fund both of Granby’s libraries. Events like this don’t happen on their own—it takes the dedication of volunteers who sort and organize thousands of items, and the generosity of neighbors who donate and shop.
The planning and running of the Friends’ book sale is a large undertaking, and it would not be possible without awesome volunteers. There were many new volunteers, along with dedicated familiar faces, to help with everything from collecting donations, sorting books and setting up the room, to running the actual three-day sale and cleanup.
A big thank you to everyone who donated items such as books, puzzles, games, comics, DVDs, CDs and records. Your donations and your patience in holding on to them until collections started in late June was appreciated. While books make up the majority of the sales, many enjoy shopping for other items—each year unique items make it a treasure hunt, since you never know what you will find. The Friends also thank the Town of Granby for continuing to allow the sale and book sorting at the beautiful Holcomb Farm.
This book sale does more than clear shelf space—it brings people together, browsing tables, trading recommendations and reconnecting with neighbors, all while supporting programs and resources on which the whole community relies.
