On Earth Day weekend, Granby Land Trust members of all ages helped reduce pollution, improve habitats and prevent harm to wildlife and humans by removing more than 1,500 pounds of trash from Granby roadsides.
Granby Land Trust Board Member John Weeks and his wife, Christine Chinni, led bird walks on six consecutive days in the GLT’s Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve in early May—some for the Land Trust, and some for other organizations, including the Hartford Audubon Society.

Granby’s annual Memorial Day parade and program will be held on Monday, May 30. Parade Marshal Kenneth Rafoss announced that the honorary parade marshal in absentia this year is James O. Hall, U.S. Navy Seabees.
Pilgrim Covenant Church, 605 Salmon Brook St., will hold a Swedish pancake breakfast and Scandanavian bake sale on Saturday, March 7, 8–10 a.m. Come for pancakes, lingonberries, bacon, sausage and fellowship. Cost is a free-will donation; proceeds benefit an upcoming mission trip.

February is National Pet Health Dental Month, which helps raise awareness that the number one health issue in our pets is periodontal disease. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats will develop dental disease by the age of three.
Ginny Apple, a Master Wildlife Conservationist and volunteer for the department of environmental protection, presented a very interesting program on bobcats in Connecticut at the Jan. 8 Women’s Breakfast held at the Senior Center.

In an effort to raise awareness about Granby’s hiking trails and open spaces, the Conservation Commission will be challenging the public to a scavenger hunt event through the fall of this year.

Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital’s seventh annual pet food drive was a huge success. Thanks to community generosity, it collected 2,859.7 lbs. of dry cat and dog food along with 2,323 cans.
