(REPRINT) The revaluation of property values is done every five years per state law. The “reval” being done effective for the Oct. 1, 2022 Grand List will affect tax bills issued for next fiscal year—July 2023.

Wreaths across America Day, Dec. 17

On Dec. 17, National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to “Remember, Honor, and Teach” will be carried out by the Abigail Phelps Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a service to the Simsbury Cemeteries and to all residents of Simsbury and surrounding towns.

On Oct. 27, Valley Pre-School families enjoyed its annual Spooktacular event. Spooktacular is an outdoor event showcasing dozens of jack o’lanterns the children carved in class, along with those brought in by families.

In the fast-paced rush of today’s world, one constant remains at the center of the community in Granby— the Granby Public Library. For decades, the library has served as a valuable resource for curious learners of all ages: a place to peruse its shelves in hopes of finding a new book to enjoy, access the internet, or stop by to catch up with friends over a game of chess.

Men’s Breakfast

The next Granby Men’s Breakfast e-Group is Friday, April 9. The guest speaker will be Rick Orluk, president of the Granby Land Trust, who will speak to us about its most recent property, Dismal Brook Preserve.

MS Support Group

The Granby Multiple Sclerosis Support Group will resume when the Granby Senior Center reopens. Meetings are at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month.

SBHS Flea Market Cancelled

For the second consecutive year, the Salmon Brook Historical Society has cancelled its spring flea market due to the coronavirus pandemic. Following the Governor’s guidelines and to protect our volunteers as well as the public, the society reached this difficult decision.

Pay It Forward Day is a global initiative to make a difference by creating a ripple effect of kindness throughout the year. Small acts of kindness, when multiplied by millions of people, can make a big impact in the world.

Several residents raised an objection to an application that will be the subject of a public hearing at a future meeting. Chapple explained the commission will not be receiving comments and the opportunity for public comment is during the public hearing for the application.

Martha Hall Kelly to talk about new novel

The East Granby Library will host a virtual talk with Martha Hall Kelly on Tuesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Sunflower Sisters, Kelly’s latest novel in the series that includes Lilac Girls and Lost Roses, continues the story of her ancestors. Georgeanna Woolsey, a nurse who joins the war effort for the Union during the War Between the States, crosses paths with Jemma, a young enslaved girl sold off and conscripted into the army, and with Ann-May Wilson, a southern plantation mistress.

Invasive Action 2 and What’s Invasive? Second Invasive Action Day Spawns a Habit

The bracing winds and cool temps gradually abated through the morning and complemented the internal heat produced by cutting, uprooting, dragging and flattening invasive plants.

Cumberland Farms opens new East Granby store

Cumberland Farms opened a new location at 62 Rainbow Road in East Granby on March 12. The new location is the latest store to feature the company’s innovative design, equipment and food offerings that are meant to enhance the customer experience and compete with limited-service, fast-casual restaurants.

Fresh Access success story

Six years ago, the Friends of Holcomb Farm (FOHF) Fresh Access program that provides produce grown at the farm to people in need, set a goal to increase its impact. We focused on serving Granby, first—through the Senior Center, Social Services, and the Waste Not Want Not Community Kitchen.
