In lieu of its usual spring performance at Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Simsbury Community Band will present a virtual concert on Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m., featuring the music of John Williams.

According to music director Ertan Sener, “Williams is arguably the outstanding composer of film scores of the late 20th century.” His works include the original Star Wars series, Jaws, E.T., Superman, and Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Over the years the band has performed excerpts from these films. Clips from a selection of these performances will be mixed with commentary by Maestro Sener during the performance that has been named the “The Band Springs Back.”

“We are, of course, disappointed that we are unable to present a live performance at this time,” stated band president and clarinetist Tim Craine, “so, we are offering this program as a service to our audience and the Simsbury community.”

During the COVID-imposed lockdown band members continue to practice their instruments and meet online to discuss music. Currently they are preparing three new pieces, which they plan to begin rehearsing outdoors later this spring and expect to play at the Simsbury Meadows performance center in the summer, as the band “springs back” to resume normal activity.

The April 11 program will be available live stream through the Covenant Presbyterian Church website, cpcbarnweb.org and the Simsbury Community Band Facebook page. For more information about the band visit simsburyband.org
