Celebrating the success

On a lovely—if too dry—August morning, members of the Friends of Holcomb Farm gathered in the fields east of Simsbury Road, overlooking the farmland, to celebrate the successes of the past year and share plans for the future.

Priorities challenged

In my opinion, some folks in Granby are far more concerned with their image than with the reality. Wasting money on political signs and advertising, similar to the “my church’s steeple is higher so god loves my church more than yours” is not a harmonious way to live.

Cultured meat research support

I was excited to learn Singapore is funding cultured-meat research in a robust manner. For readers who don’t know, cultured meat is grown from cells, without slaughtering animals.

Check Town of Granby website or call Town Manager’s office to verify date and time, and get information on how to participate on Zoom, if needed.

Connecticut, the land of steady habits

When it first appeared widely in print in the early 1800s, the term “The Land of Steady Habits” was associated with Connecticut’s ancient tradition of assuring political stability through repeatedly electing the same officials to high office.

GRANBY BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES

Grossman thanked the public in-person and on-line for attending the meeting tonight and said a special welcome to Mindy Shilansky and a student representative who are here to present for Schools in the Spotlight tonight.

View Granby sports from the comfort of your home

Two industrious GHMS seniors did not let the pandemic put a damper on the fall and winter sport seasons. Recognizing the need for parents, families and students to feel connected to the various sporting events during a season with limited spectatorship, Nick Boyd and Owen Danke took matters into their own hands.

The Little Christmas Tree

I think back in my memories to my first Christmas as a wife and young mother. Our income was just above the poverty level (by ten dollars), but we were blessed by the church with a big turkey with all the trimmings, and a basket full of canned goods and basic staples to last quite a while.

Granby Horse Council Scholarship

The Granby Horse Council Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for 2021. The scholarship is for $500 and is intended for college tuition, books or fees.

Generosity fills Granby’s Food Bank

No one should go hungry in Granby, or anywhere. In response to a growing need to provide adequate access to food and household essentials for Granby-area families in need, Granby residents once again generously supported First Congregational Church’s monthly food drive and helped it achieve new heights in support of the Granby Food Bank— this time in collaboration with Granby potter Avis Cherichetti.

Taco Slaw Skillet

I adapted this month’s recipe from one I found on Peaceloveandlowcarb.com—it’s super easy and a one-pan wonder, my favorite thing. It is also fantastic as a leftover as the cabbage stays crunchy, as long as you don’t overcook it.

Letter to Santa, 2020

Dear Santa:
Wow. What a year, huh? I bet more people than ever, especially those involved in politics, have really tested the line between naughty and nice.
