La Cucina Frutteto – Winter Glow

By Susan AcceturaEat local—eat seasonal—eat a rainbow a day. Summer is one thing, with our gardens full of tomatoes, zucchini, peaches, peppers, raspberries, blueberries, basil, we scarcely need to visit the grocery store at all. Potential cuts in services and increase in taxes, town manager warns

By Shirley MurthaAs the town prepared for the annual Three Board Meeting (Education, Finance and Selectmen) on Jan. 23, Town Manager Bill Smith noted that with the state budget in deficit, aid to towns will be greatly curtailed. For example, mid-2016 saw $50,000 worth of cuts to the Educational Cost Sharing program. Similar cuts will be seen across the board; towns will have to make up the differences by increasing local taxes and/or by cutting services. In preparing for the development of the Pl […]

Laughter is the best medicine

Everyone loves a good laugh. A comedy. Cute antics of pets. A funny joke. When we laugh, we relax. We often share the moment with a friend or loved one. We feel good.

Chance meeting

Our morning routine, not unlike anyone else’s, is watching some news and an occasional scanning of the local Sarasota Herald Tribune, Kelly catching up on happenings in the Siesta Key, Fla. area and me checking local golf scores from the previous day.

Drumrolls

Lauren Wutka, an interior design major at Endicott College, was named to the fall 2018 dean’s list. She is the daughter of Matthew and Tracey Wutka.

Support for Kearns Community Center

I am writing this letter in total support of the Kearns Community Center. As a Vietnam combat veteran, I unfortunately had to leave 20 of my brothers in the jungles of Laos in a war that historically is known as the Secret War, because the United States disavowed being there at the time.

Support for Kearns Community Center

I am a mom of three boys ages 11, 9 and 7. We live in Hartland, a great rural town, with one school for Pre-school through 8th grade, and then most kids go to Granby Memorial High School or Northwest Regional 7 in Winsted.

A Thank You

I recently became aware that Shirley Murtha is no longer reporting on the BOS meetings. I will certainly miss her detailed accounts of all matters before that board.
