At just 15 years old, Evie Bunz is poised to earn the rank of Eagle Scout—Scouting America’s highest rank and an accomplishment many scouts do not achieve until they are 17 or 18. A rising sophomore at Granby Memorial High School and a member of Troop 76G in Simsbury, Evie chose to dedicate her Eagle Scout service project to the Granby Land Trust, replacing an aging bridge on the trust’s Godard Preserve.
Community Serve Day at Stony Hill Village will be Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 a.m. to noon at 259 Salmon Brook Street. Stony Hill is a senior living community managed by the nonprofit Granby Homes for Senior Citizens. Volunteers work together helping to improve living spaces and outdoor areas. Volunteers may stay for all or part of the event.

For six years the Sadoce Wilcox House, built in 1800, has been under an extensive restoration and, in his award-winning article, local historian Mark Williams highlighted the “gradual unfolding of all that this historical resource has to offer.”
The Granby Community Fund at the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation is pleased to announce it will be accepting grant applications for projects that strengthen the wellbeing, vibrancy and resilience of the Granby community. Applications open Sept. 15 and are due by midnight on Nov. 15.

As summer begins to wind down, we’re taking a moment to reflect on all of the fun, growth, and connection that happened at the Farmington Valley YMCA this summer. Our camps were filled with field trips, swimming, games, friendships and plenty of opportunities for kids to try something new.

Seven years ago, the National Park Service added the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook to the National Wild and Scenic River System, joining the previously designated Upper Farmington River.
The designation recognizes the rich biodiversity, cultural significance, geological features and recreational opportunities within the watershed.
Like the southern “kudzu” vine, Asiatic bittersweet spreads a drapery of death across thousands of acres in the northeast US. Bittersweet is an extremely vigorous woody vine that can grow 60 to 80 feet high, completely smothering small and medium sized trees and shrubs, wrapping tightly around and girdling trunks, covering and depriving leaves of light, weakening trees over time and often pulling them down.
The Granby Lions Club welcomed a record 15 new members at its New Member Induction and Annual Awards Dinner in June held at the Lost Acres Vineyard. The club boasts over 60 members and is one of the most vibrant clubs in Connecticut.
Twenty-five years ago today, a great tragedy occurred in our country. A terrorist attack caused the loss of nearly 3,000 people. This event changed us as a country—we became united against the enemy who had done so much harm.

On June 6, a dedicated team of volunteers gathered to install a native wildflower pocket-teaching meadow alongside the parking lot at the Granby Wildflower Meadow. Measuring 40’x10’, this space demonstrates that you don’t need acres of land to support a thriving diversity of pollinators and local wildlife.
Emily Pape of North Granby, age 14, was named a winner in the March/April Cricket League poetry competition in Cricket magazine.
Granby’s First Responder Camp is offered to teens entering 9th and 10th grade, providing them the hands-on experiences that first responders do on a daily basis. The August 2026 camp was the fourth “sell-out” camp and plans are underway for 2027 with bigger and better ideas.
