Unless this is the first edition of the Drummer you are holding in your hands, you have certainly seen the work of Granby photographer Jay Harder. His photos of town sports, seasons and milestones like graduation appear frequently in this paper and various locations around town.
The speaker at the April 1 Granby Women’s Breakfast was Reverend Jane Willan, mystery writer and pastor. She discussed her mystery novel Widow’s Walk, which blends her love of storytelling and faith into a story that is filled with warmth and suspense.

A large number of residents attended the annual Budget Public Hearing on April 6 in the high school auditorium. After an introduction and explanation of the process by Board of Finance Chair Mike Guarco, First Selectman Mark Fiorentino and then-Board of Education Chair Monica Logan presented the municipal and education budgets, narrating slide presentations.
On occasion I hear back and forth banter about who “owns” the money from this or that revenue stream received by the town. The simple answer in most cases is—whether generated on the municipal side or education—it flows into the General Fund of the Town of Granby.
If it’s April, then the FY27 budget vote is right around the corner. That vote will occur on Monday, April 20, and you can vote in town hall between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Absentee ballots are also available from the town clerk.

The Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series will host a concert in memory of Brazilian Pianist Luiz de Moura Castro on Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m., at the South Campus of Granby Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St. The concert marks the first anniversary of his death.

In Connecticut, the state’s police accountability legislation requires all law enforcement units to attain multi-tiered state accreditation by the end of 2026.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Salmon Brook Historical Society (SBHS), and one of the least known, but most enduring, symbols of that legacy is thriving quietly on the SBHS Main Campus at 208 Salmon Brook Street. Known informally as Granby Oak II, this majestic tree was grown from an acorn gathered in 1980 or 1981 by longtime SBHS board member Dave Laun.

Todd Vibert’s article, The Weed-Enders house move 50 years ago, placed third in the history category of the Connecticut Press Club’s annual competition. In that article he outlined the many obstacles and behind-the-scenes efforts that made the move to the Salmon Brook Historical Society (SBHS) campus possible and ultimately “ensured the successful preservation of this historic building for future generations.”

For possibly up to 50 years, a beautiful ginkgo biloba graced the Granby Town Green. A stately tree that has been growing on our planet since the dinosaurs roamed, there is but the one species, biloba.
PFLAG Granby has officially launched! The group has formally affiliated with PFLAG National and is now a recognized chapter of the largest national organization supporting the LGBTQ+ community. With close to 350 chapters across the country, PFLAG Granby joins with hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ+ people, parents, families and allies to provide much-needed leadership working every day to ensure LGBTQ+ people everywhere are safe, celebrated, empowered and loved.
Congratulations to Raymond Staples, a senior at Granby Memorial High School, for being recognized as a semi-finalist in the 2026 national merit scholarship program. This achievement reflects his performance on last year’s PSAT, placing him in the top 1 percent of all examination participants.
