As I was browsing through the files at the Salmon Brook Historical Society looking for ideas to write about Granby’s history, I discovered that our town has a history of volunteerism and an active civic life that continues today.

Granby Police Department Gets A New Officer

Granby Officer Jeffrey Murphy graduated from the police academy on Dec. 18. Officer Murphy was part of the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s 246th training class, a class of 47 officers serving multiple communities throughout Connecticut. Help Fight Hunger in Our Community

By Lexi Grimaldi The Empty Bowl Project is an international grassroots organization with the purpose of fighting hunger in the local community through education and events. Granby answers state call for Affordable Housing Plans

In 2017, Connecticut Public Act 17-170 called upon each town and municipality to develop an affordable housing plan. The draft of the Affordable Housing Plan will be available for review and posted on the town’s website by March 10.

Gordon Daniels, Granby’s unsung hero

One cold winter morning, Dr. David Nochimson struck up a conversation with Gordon Daniels, a driver for Paine’s recycling and rubbish removal. Although spring is in the near future, we can almost certainly expect another winter storm in late February or March. There is always the possibility of an April Fool’s Day blizzard as we had in 1997. While we have television and radio meteorologists as well as the National Weather Service to alert us to incoming storms, that was not the case in the first half of the twentieth century.
