Granby Friends Prepare for 2014 Used Book Sale

By Carole Bernard

As the summer sun begins to taper off, the Friends of Granby Public Library are heating up for its Used Book Sale. This year’s sale will be held on Friday through Sunday, September 26 – 28, at Holcomb Farm in West Granby.

Proceeds from the book sale, the primary fundraising event sponsored by the Friends, support the mission and goals of Granby Public Library. Funds assist in the purchase of additions to the collection, programming, museum passes, special events, and other needs that may arise.

Donations have been pouring in throughout the summer, and as always, the Friends are very appreciative of the generosity of the public. The Friends have carefully sorted books, packed them in properly labeled boxes according to detailed categories, and stored them in a clean and dry space at Holcomb Farm. As patrons of the Friends book sales are aware, items that are offered for sale are of high quality, extremely easy to locate, and are a fabulous value!

Items available for purchase range from hardcover and paperback books, coffee table and vintage books, a collection of first edition and autographed books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, games, learning toys and other book-related items. Buyers are always surprised and pleased, not only by what they find on the tables, but how well sorted and displayed they find everything.

Holcomb Farm is the beautiful location for the sale, and the site is completely accessible. Parking is plentiful, and volunteers are eager, willing and able to assist shoppers, if desired, to transport and load their purchases into their vehicles.

The sale starts on Friday, September 26, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  An entry fee of $5 gives Friday evening shoppers the first peek and best selection of the sale. Saturday hours are from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and prices are as marked. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., and although there are no set prices, reasonable donations are appreciated. Look in the Hartford Courant on Tuesday, September 23, for a “Free for All” coupon for use on Saturday.

For more information on the sale, please visit the Friends website, www.granby-ct.gov, and follow the link to “town departments,” “library” and “Friends.” You can also contact the Library at 860-844-5275.

Hope to see you at the sale!
