My grandmother Katie Hurley immigrated from Ireland as a young girl. Though I never had the privilege of knowing her firsthand, my mom always kept her memory alive with wonderful stories, and most importantly, by celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in a big way.
The Friends of Holcomb Farm learned that Auer Farm in Bloomfield might need items for its new Discovery barn, so we invited them to come and take whatever they could put to good use.
A while back I was looking to get more involved in the community, to find a way to lend a helping hand, and I knew there were many great options. This town is full of generous, giving people and organizations that reach out to help others, but it can be a bit overwhelming to know where to start.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Audrey M. Phelps beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend, of West Suffield, CT who peacefully passed away at home on January 22, 2025 at the age of 89.
Granby 4-H sign-up night is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Holcomb Farm Workshop. This open house from 7 to 8 p.m. will introduce the youth-officer team and project groups available for the 2023-24 program year.

Granby Open Farm Day 2023 will be on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cheri Burke, Granby’s superintendent of schools, announced that Heather Tanis has been selected as the principal of Granby Memorial Middle School.
At an Aug. 9 public hearing, a 48-unit, four-story apartment complex proposed for 37 Hartford Avenue by Vessel Development of New York, was presented to the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission (IWWC) for permit approval of its storm water management plan. The review and permits are required because the site includes 932 square feet of wetlands.

Lieutenant Commander David M. Amidon, honorary marshal of the Granby Memorial Day Parade, served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and the Cold War. His actual service duties were reported incorrectly in my article in the July/August issue, Memorial Day parade and ceremony honors fallen heroes.
