Rotary members volunteered for the Salvation Army Bell Ring at Stop & Shop, Simsbury.

Simsbury-Granby Rotary’s end-of-the-year, service-oriented activities truly reflect its commitment to this year’s Rotary theme “We are People of Action!” These activities also generated great enjoyment and tons of fun for all! Here are some highlights:

They started the month of December by collecting items for children and adults in need of support:

Kids’ pajamas for Interval House—Children arrive at Interval House, often in the middle of the night after fleeing with their moms from abusive homes.

Men’s and women’s socks for South Park Inn—Socks are the most requested item, especially during winter months.

Children’s books and small stuffed animals for children removed from their homes by Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF).

On Dec. 8, Rotarians performed their annual Carol Sing for residents of the McLean community in Simsbury. Folks joined in raising holiday spirit for all!

On Dec. 13, the Simsbury-Granby Rotary Club partnered with the Avon-Canton Rotary Club to host the annual holiday party for residents of FAVARH (The Arc of Farmington Valley). This annual event is the happiest highlight of our year. This year’s holiday party was truly wonderful with more than 150 people including residents, staff and Rotarians in attendance. A great feast was generously provided by Fitzgerald’s Foods in Simsbury. Of course, Santa arrived to give presents to each of the 91 FAVARH residents. Rotarians were delighted to see the joy that gifts they purchased brought to each of the residents.

On Dec. 16, 24 Rotary members volunteered for the Salvation Army Bell Ring at Stop & Shop, Simsbury. A portion of the proceeds benefit community service needs in Simsbury and Granby. This annual volunteer commitment for the Simsbury-Granby Rotary is fun for all. Some members even dress-up and bring their kids and pets.

On Dec. 20, the Simsbury-Granby Rotary provided support to the Salvation Army Holiday Store. Club President Patrick Sullivan was interviewed on WTIC during the event helping folks understand the role Rotary plays in aiding the Salvation Army Holiday Store efforts and the value that this generates for the community.
