Memorial Day Parade Schedule

Granby’s annual Memorial Day Parade and program will be held on Monday, May 29. Parade Marshal and American Legion Post 182 Commander Wayne Adams announced that this year’s honorary parade marshal is David M. Amidon, Lt Cdr, USN (Retired), a naval aviator.

Making the Tree Trail more inviting to pollinators

The morning of Oct. 9 found a few members of the Holcomb Farm Tree Trail group planting milkweed and Joe-Pye weed on the wood-chipped bank on the left close to the entrance off Day Street. After thorough weeding, the group inserted 180 seedlings into the bank, compliments of David Desiderato and grown in one of Farmer Joe O’Grady’s greenhouses. 

Roberts named Lions’ representative to United Nations council

Lions Clubs International President Douglas X. Alexander recently appointed West Granby resident Dave Roberts as the Lions’ representative to the United Nations Council of Organizations. In this role, Roberts will represent over 1.4 million Lions at this United Nations’ organization.

McLean Golf Tournament raised $55,000

The Annual McLean Golf Tournament supports the vital McLean Home Care and Hospice program that serves residents at McLean and in the community. The tournament sponsors’ generous support, especially during these difficult times, exemplifies their faith in our mission to serve those in need. On Sept. 13, 104 golfers and 35 sponsors raised over $55,000.

Social Services

The focus of the Social Services Department is to coordinate existing federal, state, regional and local services, to increase community awareness of these services and to develop new programs to meet the needs of Granby residents.

Parks & Recreation

Now is the time to register for the Winter Youth Basketball Program. Granby Parks and Recreation strives to provide a positive recreational basketball program for boys and girls in grades K-8.

Celebrating milestones, new beginnings

Welcome our new Town Manager, Erica Robertson. After 20 years working in Farmington Town Hall, most recently as Assistant Town Manager, Robertson was offered and accepted this important leadership position and started work here on Sept. 20.

Granby Road Race celebrates its 50th

Robert Flanigan and his drone captured the start of the 50th Granby Road Race on Sept. 18. The runners left the starting line on Route 10, heading to the center of town, led by a Granby PD vehicle with lights flashing.

I want to thank the people of Granby for the opportunity to be your First Selectman for the last eight years. I have been fortunate to work with a great group of professionals on the Board of Selectmen over the years and wish to thank Sally King for being the best Vice Chair anyone could ask for.

New town manager appointed

Erica P. Robertson of Avon has been appointed Granby’s next town manager, effective Sept. 20. She replaces John Ward who served as town manager from July of 2017 until his passing in March of this year.
