Bill Simanski, wife Marie, sons Brad and Cliff, and two dogs moved to Granby 30 years ago from Staten Island, N.Y. In five short years, Bill started serving Granby as a Selectman, and was elected First Selectman 1995 to 2003. In 2010 he was elected to represent the 62nd district.
“The water is warm” were memorable words to us as we embarked on the journey of owning goats. It is time to acknowledge Granby 4H and all the families we have encountered during our journey with “barn life” and I figured a letter to the editor was the most appropriate venue.
Every fall, school districts receive the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) and SAT test scores and use them to measure both the previous year’s success and the long-term trends of their schools. Sadly, Granby did not fare well again.
Regardless of party, I think most Granby residents can agree that our proud town has often been overlooked when it comes to the decision makers in Hartford. New leadership in the capitol is in Granby’s best interest in both the short and long term, and that is why Amanda Webster is the right person to represent the 62nd District when voters go to the ballot box in November.
Many months ago “Amanda Webster – New for 62” came across my Facebook page. Along with it was a picture of, to this grandmother’s eyes, a very young woman.
The legislators in Hartford are totally out of touch with their constituents. Families struggle with stagnant wages, rising healthcare costs, and Eversource rate hikes, while inflation eats away at any minor gains made.
As we closed down the house and prepared to retire for the night on July 16, we heard an animal noise coming from somewhere along the path between our house and our neighbor’s. Sensing some concern, my wife Lisa left a message for Jennifer Abalan (Animal Control).
I thank the residents of Granby for all of their support during my seven years as the Director of Recreation and Leisure Services for the Town of Granby. I will be leaving my position here at the end of June and I will take with me many wonderful memories of special events such the Flashlight Egg Hunts and Trunk or Treat at SBP and the popular Comedy Nights at the Holcomb Farm North Barn Pavilion.
The Farmington Valley VNA Granby Food Bank staff and volunteers want to express their appreciation to Granby Public Works for its efforts in conducting the May 22–24 Fill-A-Truck event. The Food Bank received 75 bags and boxes of items, overflowing its collection area.
We recently tried to take our grandchildren fishing at Christensen’s Pond on Wells Road, a beautiful place where adults and children are welcome to walk and fish. Because of irresponsible, lazy dog owners, the pond’s shore and approach were littered with piles of dog feces.
