Originally, I was going to address the potential for the Kearns School based on currently available information published in the Town of Granby Kearns School Study Committee Final Report dated May 11, 2017. This was part of my research because the issue has recently been revisited by the BOS to determine the school’s future status.
Director of Public Works Kirk Severance presented the annual Public Works Department report to the Board of Selectmen on Feb. 5.
The February mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, resulting in the senseless loss of 17 lives was another tragic event for public education and the nation. It is a sad day when any superintendent of schools cannot 100 percent guarantee the safety of students and staff in school.
On Jan. 30, the students of Granby Memorial Middle School participated in STEAM Day, a day devoted to Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. Throughout the day, students engaged in a number of hands-on and inquiry-based activities to recognize the various ways that STEAM connects to their daily lives. STEAM education is a high priority at GMMS, as it helps students to develop the necessary skills in today’s tech-savvy world. STEAM represents a pathway to some of the most in-demand jobs that the economy has to offer, and allows students to develop a problem solver’s mentality, always looking to question and wonder about how things work.
Trash reminders: March 30 (Good Friday) is not a trash holiday. Put your trash out on your regularly scheduled day and make sure your barrels are at least two feet apart to allow clearance for the automatic arm of the truck.
Emily Cronin has been named to the president’s list at Western New England University for fall 2017. Cronin is working toward a degree in health sciences.
On Jan. 10, Granby Memorial High School held the schoolwide finals of Poetry Out Loud, with nine finalists competing.
Winter weather is chaotic and unpredictable, with its wailing winds, stinging cold and speeding blizzards. In the morning, the feeling students experience after waking up to a blurry landscape outside of their window, with school canceled, is filled with a tremendous amount of joy.
Parents, you are incredible role models and important figures in your children’s lives, but sometimes it is hard for parents and children to get along. The relationship will never be seamless, but this article was created to hopefully open a small part of a teenagers life to a parent, to help them better understand the wants and needs of a teen today.
