The Digital Delusion: Essential reading for parents

We were told that giving our children laptops, tablets and educational software was progress. As Granby’s chapter leader for Mothers Against Media Addiction (MAMA), I’d like to recommend a book that challenges that assumption: The Digital Delusion: How Classroom Technology Harms Our Kids’ Learning—and How to Help Them Thrive Again by Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath.

The Little Mermaid was a community-wide hit

The GMHS Dramatic Arts program enchanted audiences in March with a captivating production of a Disney classic, The Little Mermaid. This fun and nostalgic show brought beloved characters and an enchanting underwater world vividly to life on stage, captivating viewers with its magical love story while also highlighting powerful messages of bravery, curiosity and self-discovery.

Help us find you in an emergency

During an emergency it is important that emergency personnel quickly identify your house when responding. Finding your home, especially at night, is quite challenging if your street number is hidden, unreadable, unlit or missing entirely. This can delay responders from getting to your emergency quickly.

Where the windows glow

There’s a moment in December when the world seems to pause. Long gone are the warm afternoons of autumn. We can all feel that first cold day. There are fewer pedestrians on the streets, dusk pulls in earlier and puffs of white drift across the hills and valleys. After a snowfall, a sacred silence settles in.

And the winner is …

Scott Rhoades, of Storrs, won the Marty and Don Wilmot Award for his acrylic painting, Kindred Spirits. The work depicting the giant moose and tiny turtle amid reflected autumnal glory earned the top prize at the 2025 Celebrating New England’s Natural Beauty Art Show hosted by the Granby Land Trust and the Granby Artists Association at Lost Acres Vineyard.

How Granby prioritizes and funds infrastructure improvements

Granby is a town that practices “direct democracy.” What does that mean? It means you, the voters, through the ballot box, choose your elected officials every other November, you approve the town’s annual budget in April and, periodically, you are asked to go to the polls to approve spending and funding for large infrastructure (capital) improvements.

Where do they plan on locating the 100-megawatts of utility-scale batteries?

Numerous developers including D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) in our valley are vying to plug into the large Eversource electrical transmission line that runs from North Bloomfield to Agawam. Its desire is to install massive batteries that are primarily made from lithium and other toxic metals. The problem is that the public isn’t being told about some of their locations.
