Graduating high school seniors who are planning to pursue further education in visual arts are invited to apply for the 2026 Granby Artist Association Annual Scholarship. The scholarship is a cash award of $1,000 given to a graduating senior with advanced artistic skills to be used for upcoming college expenses.

This winter’s snow has created terrific conditions for outdoor enthusiasts on Granby Land Trust trails.
Barrel Placement: At the curb, please leave a two-foot gap between your barrels so the automatic arm can grab the barrel. Barrels should never be placed in the road.
Over the course of the season at Ski Sundown, you may notice folks in red coats with a white cross on their backs around the hill. These are members of the Sundown Ski Patrol, an entirely volunteer team dedicated to maintaining guests’ safety.
In 2018 it had been 25 years since the Town of Granby updated its police/fire/ambulance communication system. The dispatch console was 24 years old; the radio equipment was 20-30 years old. Parts were no longer available, so repair was not possible. The two-tower radio system installed in 2000 barely covered 50 percent of the town.
The Third Annual Granby Puzzle Slam attracted a record high 256 competitors on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Granby Memorial Middle School, 100 more contestants than assembled at the first year of the Drummer’s only recurring fundraising event.
Each year, Terry Spak hosts friends and family at the Puzzle Slam. This year, she offered to move her group of 64 puzzlers to the cafeteria so that additional teams could compete in the gym.
Dr. Harry Werner, retired veterinarian, entertained the Woman’s Breakfast Group on Oct. 1 with humorous anecdotes about his years working with large farm animals.

More than 110 Granby Land Trust members gathered for the 2025 GLT Annual Meeting and Potluck Supper on October 19 in Cook Hall at the Granby Congregational Church North Campus.
Members of the Board of Directors and staff members took a moment to celebrate the accomplishment of attaining accreditation renewal through the Land Trust Alliance.
When the Board of Directors of the GLT accepted the 210-acre Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve, given to the GLT by Jamie Gamble, in North Granby, they knew it would require a good deal of maintenance and loving care and there needed to be someone available to take care of issues as they arose. Luckily, they knew just the people for the job—Bob and Karen Saunders.
This award recognizes an individual who provides exceptional property stewardship support to the GLT. In this case, that involves caring for a single extraordinary tree that requires thoughtful care and ongoing attention.
The 2025 Mary Edwards Friend of the Land Trust Award—the GLT’s highest honor—was given to Will Hart and his sister Sarah Koeniger, who donated 44 acres of land—now known at the Hart Family Preserve—to the trust earlier this year.
The GLT recognized and honored outgoing GLT Board member Paula Johnson for her incredible dedication and generosity to the Land Trust.
The Granby Horse Council (GHC) is announcing its 2026 scholarship award of $700 to a senior enrolled in their high school or home school program. Membership in the GHC is not required.
You can now take a video tour of the Granby Land Trust’s (GLT) Emery and Hart Family Preserves in North Granby. Starting at the GLT’s Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve trail head located off Silver Street (these two preserves connect to the Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve trail system) you will virtually explore the Emery and Hart Family Preserves located on the Silver/Loomis Street ridgeline.

Fall is in full swing here in Granby, and it’s time to adjust for the cold weather and plan for leaf cleanup. The chill in the early morning air slides away as the sun comes out, and there’s lots to see and do around town. The Granby Artists Association held its Annual Open Studio Tour Oct. 4 and 5. Visitors had the opportunity to meet the 18 participating artists at their home studios or in gallery spaces and learn how they make their art.
The focus of the Social Services Department is to coordinate existing federal, state, regional and local services, to increase community awareness of these services and to develop new programs to meet the needs of Granby residents.
The Farmington Valley CT Heritage Network is pleased to present a timely and engaging lecture with Walter Woodward, Painting Patriotism, Healing Wounds: The Art of Col. John Trumbull. This richly illustrated talk discusses the lifelong struggle of John Trumbull to earn respect for his art by creating a series of American history paintings, many of the Revolutionary War, of which he was a veteran.
