On May 9, thanks to Town Clerk Jen Espinal and Animal Control Officer Jen Abalan, the public was invited to an Open House at the Animal Shelter on Salmon Brook Street to view the recent upgrades in the facility. At the same time, dog and cat owners also got their pets vaccinated against rabies and/or renewed their licenses.
Granby Artists will present its annual All Members Show from June 3 to June 28 at East Granby Public Library. This show features work by your favorite local artists, as well as new member artists and GMHS students, which brings an exciting diversity to its exhibition of 2D and 3D art pieces.
On May 6, the Women’s Breakfast Group welcomed three-time Emmy winner Sarah Cody whose talk and slide show centered on her book, Around Every Corner of Connecticut.

Every Memorial Day for the past 14 years my husband and I have risen at dawn and made our way to the Over the Mountain Burial Ground in West Suffield (OTM) to watch the Marquis of Granby. We first entered the hallowed grounds 15 summers ago to consider final resting spots for our daughter and Marquis member, Jacky, and ever since the Marquis has kept vigil with us.

If you’re not familiar with the Holcomb Farm Tree Trail located on the hill across from the entrance to the North Barn event facility, this would be a good time to check out its newest addition. It’s not a new tree—it’s a kestrel nest box placed 12 feet in the air, on the right a short way up the entrance trail.

Two Wells Road Intermediate School students have been selected to represent the Town of Granby in the Connecticut 2026 Fire Prevention Poster Recognition Program. This year’s theme is “Fire Prevention—Everyone/Every day.”
The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center sponsored a fundraiser, “PJ Day” on Dec. 12, during which both cash and warm pajamas were donated. In conjunction with the medical center’s program, Wells Road Intermediate School also collected pajama donations for Beyond Bedtime, a program that gets warm PJs to children in need.
The Connecticut State Department of Education’s (CSDE) Greater Hartford Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) announced the online application to apply to free public schools in the Greater Hartford Region for the 2026-27 school year is available through Feb. 6.

The New England Air Museum will be transformed into a vibrant celebration of art, culture and community on Saturday, March 7, as the Granby Ambulance Association (GAA) hosts its annual fundraiser, A Perfect Pairing.
This year is a busy one for voters. The Town Budget Referendum Vote is Monday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room. A public hearing for the budget is held at the high school on Monday, April 6 at 7 p.m. All registered Granby voters and property owners may vote at the referendum.
The focus of the Social Services Department is to coordinate existing federal, state, regional and local services, to increase community awareness of these services and to develop new programs to meet the needs of Granby residents.

There are important meetings about Granby’s annual budget in the coming months. Residents are encouraged to participate in all phases of the budget process by attending meetings.
The Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series was founded in 2011 to honor the life and work of Bruce Porter. Porter was a Granby native whose contributions as organist, choir director and music director of South Congregational Church included hosting classical music recitals at the church.
The graduation ceremony for Granby Memorial High School is scheduled for June 11, and Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation (GPSG) is kicking into high gear. GPSG is an all-volunteer, non-profit group that organizes a substance-free Safe Grad celebration for GMHS graduates at the Farmington Valley YMCA on graduation night.

Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Litchfield County is seeking volunteers to support its growing Hospice Program. Volunteers provide care to patients in towns throughout Litchfield County and the Farmington Valley, including Granby, East Granby and East Hartland.
February is Heart Health Month and at the Farmington Valley YMCA, it is also a time to reflect on community, impact and the power of movement to change lives. Throughout the month, the Y will highlight opportunities for people of all ages to come together, improve their health and support programs that strengthen our community.

In December, Kelly Lane, Wells Road and Granby Memorial Middle schools partnered in a toy drive benefiting Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). Together, the schools collected an impressive 413 toys and craft items to support children receiving medical care at the hospital.
