Sometimes, we just get lucky.
This fall, conditions have been close to ideal for brilliant leaf color at Holcomb Farm.
During the public session discussion of the proposed Long-term Conservation and Sustainability Plan for Holcomb Farm on Oct. 17, some people presented personal memories and stories in their encouragement for approval of the plan. Their words added weight and were greatly appreciated by the many residents in the Town Hall meeting room.
As we go into the holiday season, there are many things to remember, prepare and do. No wonder we often start to doubt ourselves when we can’t find something or forget an appointment or special day. If we have had relatives with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, we start to be concerned.

From 1929 to 1935, the Manitook Hotel, and guest cottages on the west shore of the lake, was a thriving, bustling place. Tourists from New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and many other states visited to canoe, swim, play tennis, fish, hunt, and enjoy a vacation in Granby.

An important change in the wording and interpretation of the state statute has given all registered voters who are concerned about the pandemic, the option to obtain and fill out an absentee ballot application, vote absentee, and use the black Official Ballot Drop Box located in front of Town Hall for completed applications and ballots.
Over the past few months, the Board of Selectmen has worked on the draft of a strategic plan. The plan is based on proposed goals and objectives provided by Granby’s appointed and elected boards and commissions, as well as input received at several public work sessions.
Members of the Granby Land Trust Youth Conservation Corps, along with a solid cadre of adult volunteers, including members of the GLT board of directors, property stewards, and GLT members at-large, have spent six weekends working to construct and blaze trails on the GLT’s Katan-Ensor Preserve and Old Messenger Road Corridor properties.

On April 1, John Dewey captured this photo in his backyard on Copper Hill Road in Granby. The black bear ate from the feeder and eventually broke it—clearly giving Dewey the message that it was time to bring the bird feeders in for the season.
Granby’s annual Memorial Day parade and program will be held on Monday, May 31. Parade Marshal James O. Hall announced that the honorary parade marshal this year is Maurice J. Brassard, World War II U.S. Army Air Corps.
Aquarion Water Company announced a water conservation program that includes a mandatory sprinkler irrigation schedule for its customers in East Granby, Granby and Simsbury.
Anna Sogliuzzo, 15 Old Orchard Road, addressed the board requesting all board meetings to be recorded on Zoom, as well as GCTV. She thanked Ballard for the efforts he has been making and feels members of the board should be free to express themselves.
In order to help meet our obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement, the United States should invest public funds into cultured-meat research. For those who don’t know, cultured meat is grown from cells, without slaughter.

Spring is finally here. After our long pandemic year, we look to the future with optimism. Granby Democrats are hard at work making our community a better place to live, raise a family, work, play and retire.

Registered voter numbers in Connecticut have shifted considerably in the past few years reflecting movement away from the two major parties to the unaffiliated list. The defections appear to have occurred at a greater rate from the Republican party compared to the Democratic party.
