To show its deep appreciation for all they do for the organization, the GLT’s Rick Orluk (l.) presented the Emerys with an oil painting by Granby artist Bill Simpson, depicting a scene on the Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve—a place that is very special to the Emerys.

Granby Land Trust president Rick Orluk presented the 2021 Mary Edwards Friend of the Land Trust Award, the highest honor bestowed by the GLT, to North Granby residents Dave and Jenny Emery, who have been incredibly supportive of the GLT over many years. The award is given annually to an individual or organization that has done – through a single gift or collectively over many years – the most to promote the GLT’s mission of “preserving Granby’s natural heritage.”

The Emerys’ commitment to—and love for—Granby, the Land Trust, and the natural world are demonstrated daily. They are both leaders and doers, who have been making a positive difference in our town for decades, and whose work often goes without recognition because they so quietly and modestly get things done.

Longtime GLT Board Member Jamie Gamble, who was unable to attend the meeting, said, “Dave and Jenny are remarkable…they span the bridge between people and nature with passion, insight, patience, and deep vision. They embrace the landscape around them and transform those parts that enhance habitat and community for all. They are stewards, and friends, of the highest caliber.”
