Getting started with a veggie garden

I believe that gardening is a great first step towards conservation. My parents and grandparents gardened when I was young, and that, plus backyard bird feeders, helped me to learn to observe the natural world. I tell anyone interested in gardening to give it a try. Plant something, eat it, and fall in love with the land.

The seed order is in and the Summer CSA shares are almost sold out (some still available at holcombfarm.org/join-our-csa). Plans for a full “Season of Celebrations” for the 30th anniversary of the Friends of Holcomb Farm, are well underway.

Holiday Tours at Historic Ellsworth Homestead

The Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution are pleased to announce the return of Christmas Open House tours at the historic Oliver Ellsworth Homestead Museum, 778 Palisado Avenue in Windsor, on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Christmas Carol in Suffield

The Suffield Players are ready to impart some holiday cheer with our annual holiday benefit featuring the classic tale by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, adapted for stage by Ryan Bird.

Granby Youth Basketball

Still taking registrations. Granby Parks and Recreation strives to provide a positive recreational basketball program for youths in grades K-8.

Granby Girls Volleyball team has outstanding season

Each fall inside the Granby Memorial High School gymnasiums, the athleticism and grit of the female volleyball student-athletes are showcased. On average, 40 players span the freshman, junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams each season.

Granby Artists events in December

The Granby Artists Association and Town of Granby Recreation will join forces to host a traditional Gift Show and Holiday Marketplace on Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Father Carlos invites one and all to Saint Therese

Saint Therese Roman Catholic Church is just beyond Route 20’s initial rise toward West Granby. The church has a long history and its new pastor, Father Carlos Castrillon Castro, is adding another chapter to that history.
