BOS honors Kelly Rome

On Dec. 15, First Selectman Mark Fiorentino presented retiring board of selectmen member Kelly Rome with a plaque honoring her many years of continuous service to the Town of Granby.

Wells Road students donated PJs for foster care kids

The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center sponsored a fundraiser, “PJ Day” on Dec. 12, during which both cash and warm pajamas were donated. In conjunction with the medical center’s program, Wells Road Intermediate School also collected pajama donations for Beyond Bedtime, a program that gets warm PJs to children in need.

New bleachers at high school

Granby Memorial High School has new bleachers in the gymnasium, marking a milestone in the school’s ongoing efforts to improve campus infrastructure and enhance experiences for students, families and community members.

Long range capital planning underway

As highlighted in prior articles as well as at several board meetings, the Granby Capital Program Priority Advisory Council (CPPAC), which is responsible for defining capital projects, creating prioritization criteria and recommending a five-year capital Project Improvement Plan, is getting closer to its proposed bond request for board of selectmen approval.

Westfield Bank held toy drive

Westfield Bank employees, customers and community members provided new toys and books to children in local communities across Western Massachusetts and Connecticut through its annual toy drive.

Granby Lions—always busy!

The Granby Lions Club started its new year in July and is quickly approaching the halfway point. Led by newly appointed President John Adams, the club kicked off with impressive activity and success, and December promises to be just as busy.

Granby officials sworn in

On November 17, the newly-elected town officials were sworn in following a ceremony that included the presentation of colors by the American Legion Honor Guard and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by Granby Public School students.

Women hear about miracles

Tina Angeli, a motivational healer and author, was the speaker at the Nov. 5 Women’s Breakfast, sharing her experiences in a program titled Miracles Can Happen.

Cub Scouts tour town hall

A group of 4th grade Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 325 visited the Granby Town Hall to learn firsthand how the voting process works. The scouts were welcomed by the Granby Registrars of Voters, who gave the group a tour of the early voting area, and explained how ballots are cast and counted.

Help shape the next five years

The Granby Board of Education has started to develop a new five-year strategic plan that serves as the blueprint for its school districts’ priorities, goals and actions. The strategic plan outlines the goals and strategic initiatives for the BOE for the upcoming five years. In addition, the BOE is hoping to identify more concrete and measurable metrics to establish progress on those goals. The board invites input from students, families, staff and community members to help define the mission.

ARPA projects complete

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was signed into law in March 2021. It allocated almost $2 trillion for Covid relief and economic recovery. Granby’s share of this money was $3,405,503, which had to be officially allocated for specific projects by the end of 2024, and be spent by Dec. 31, 2026.
