Granby High School Performing Arts is excited to announce the spring musical, Fiddler On The Roof, in cooperation with Music Theater International. Fiddler On The Roof tells the life-affirming story of Tevye, a poor milkman whose love, pride and faith help him face the oppression of turn-of-the century czarist Russia.
Known for its performances in parades locally as well as across the northeast, this August the Marquis will embark on an international trip to Scotland. This experience will allow the members of the corps to continue to learn about music, history and culture while sharing their award-winning talents internationally from multiple opportunities to jam with Scottish musical reenactment groups, to having the honor of performing at the International Fringe Festival while in Edinburgh. They will learn about Scottish culture, including musical traditions, historical foundations, and modern lifestyle as well as perform with musicians from around the world.
If you have been to any of the Granby Artist Association arts and crafts shows during the holiday season or enjoyed visiting the artists’ studios on Open Studio Day in the fall, you have probably noticed the exquisite glasswork done by Silver Street Glass. Pieces of all different sizes, textures and colors capture the eye: wall hangings, paperweights, jewelry, Christmas tree ornaments, vases, bowls, to name a few.
Visitors to the Granby Public Library during the month of February were treated to a special display of paintings compliments of the Painting Study Group — a collection of local artists who meet monthly to discuss techniques, methodology and materials, and to also critique each other’s works. The idea for the showcase came from Pam Jones, who spoke to head librarian Kelly Marscycki for a Valentine’s exhibit, For the Love of Art.
Ten local artists who form the Painting Study Group, will be exhibiting oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel paintings from Feb. 1 through 28 in the library’s main reading room during regular library hours. Members include Carole Day, Dorothy Dumond, Carole Hartwell, Pam Jones, Suzanne Roz Magoon, Sally Sargent Markey, Rosemarie Mendes, Frances Miller, Marian Rowles and John Walker. Granby Land Trust, Simsbury Land Trust and Friends of Holcomb Farm host documentary screening Forgotten Farms, a documentary about New England dairy farms, will be shown Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. in the Simsbury Public Library Lower Level Program Room. Hundreds of student dancers will perform with the Albany Berkshire Ballet (ABB) this season on the 43rd annual tour of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker.
