Earth Day celebrated with a hike

Nearly 50 people turned out to celebrate Earth Day with the Granby Land Trust, as GLT Board Members Jen Plourde and Eric Lukingbeal conducted a hike on the trails of the GLT’s new, 150-acre Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve on Silver Street in North Granby. Hikers will have another opportunity to take a family-friendly, guided hike of the property on Connecticut Trails Day, June 3, at 1 p.m. Visit GranbyLandTrust.org for details.

Wilson’s warblers sighted at GLT bird walk

Despite the cloudy skies and chilly temperatures, the Granby Land Trust had a good turnout (in terms of both humans and birds) for its bird walk on May 13. Walk leader John Weeks reports: “Things got off to a nice start, with a pair of Redstarts engaged in a colorful dogfight right before our eyes, to everyone’s amusement.

Live streaming on opening day

Each of the past few years my friend Ken has asked me if I want to go fishing on opening day of trout season. I always say “yes” when I secretly mean “not really.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love fishing with Ken.
