Martha Hall Kelly to talk about new novel

The East Granby Library will host a virtual talk with Martha Hall Kelly on Tuesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Sunflower Sisters, Kelly’s latest novel in the series that includes Lilac Girls and Lost Roses, continues the story of her ancestors. Georgeanna Woolsey, a nurse who joins the war effort for the Union during the War Between the States, crosses paths with Jemma, a young enslaved girl sold off and conscripted into the army, and with Ann-May Wilson, a southern plantation mistress.

Twelve energized volunteers from Granby and Simsbury gave native plants breathing room and a chance to thrive at two West Granby sites on March 13. The bracing winds and cool temps gradually abated through the morning and complemented the internal heat produced by cutting, uprooting, dragging and flattening invasive plants.
