2017 Memorial Day activities

The Granby Memorial Day parade will be held Monday, May 29. The honorary parade marshall will be Gilbert F. Justo who served with the U.S. Army 101 Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. The parade will line up at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot on Bank Street and step off at 10 a.m. sharp. Stops will be made to lay wreaths at the Civil War, War on Terror, Legion and World War I monuments before continuing to the cemetery. Dr. Kirby C. Stafford III, Chief Scientist and State Entomologist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, will give a “tick talk” on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in the North Barn at Holcomb Farm. Virginia rail highlights GLT bird walks

Led by John Weeks and Christine Chinni, the walks have become a springtime tradition in town.This year the sky was overcast for the May 13 walk, but the rain held off. Creative Makers at Wells Road

Wells Road students were excited to participate in Simsbury Public Library’s Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, April 1. No Fooling! The newly formed MakerSpace Club accepted the challenge to design and create marble runs out of cardboard, water bottles, popsicle sticks and other common materials, and demonstrated them at a booth at the Faire. A new fine arts scholarship for GMHS graduates will be offered for the class of 2018. Granby resident Susan Patricelli-Regan is establishing the scholarship in her mother’s name.Sylvia Davis Patricelli was a young and well-known portrait painter in Sydney, Australia, who had attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Therapy dogs visit Wells Road students

Bruce Porter Music Series begins 2019-2020 season

This fall, the Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series (BPMMS) will launch its eighth season of bringing classical music to life in Granby. This series was established in 2012 in memory of Bruce Porter’s leadership as music director at South Congregational Church.

Granby Cubs 2019 season in review

The Granby Cubs men’s baseball teamfinished the regular season 2-15. The team moved up to the 35+ division for the 2019 season and played many close games after playing in the 25+ division in 2018.

Granby girl is state swim champ

Margot Levesque, a 10-year-old Granby resident, competed in the Connecticut Swimming’s 2019 Long Course Swimming Championships at Cheshire on July 25–28. Margot is a member of the Aquabears Swim Team and had an outstanding weekend, finishing first in one event, second in four events, and third in one event.

Granby Library Association 1869–2019

The Granby Library Association is a unique organization. It has operated and then supported a public library in Granby for 150 years, although it is a private organization.

Chorale invites young poets to submit entries

To celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020, the Farmington Valley Chorale has commissioned a new musical composition by Ellen Gilson Voth. For lyrics, the composer hopes to incorporate an original poem by a local teen with poetry of Connecticut’s past Poet Laureate Rennie McQuilken.
