The weather cooperated and over 40 community volunteers gathered for the spring Stony Hill Village Community Serve Day on Saturday, April 18. Even a black bear was curious to see the tractor, wood chipper, 20-foot dumpster and two large trucks for hauling away brush that were instrumental in our accomplishing so much.
My name is Tim Nolan, and I’m a GMHS Class of 2018 grad who’s been fortunate enough to spend the last two years working as a sports anchor and reporter in Maryland — not all that long after I began this circuitous journalism route writing for the Drummer.

Trees are everywhere in Granby, but sometimes we need one more in a special place. This just happened at Wells Road School where teacher Kristen Lecco’s third grade class became fascinated by trees and decided the interior courtyard viewed from their classroom window, needed one.

As this issue arrives in Granby residents’ mailboxes, the regular high school basketball seasons will have ended, and the NCCC tournaments and state championship game brackets will be determined. While sport sessions begin and end three times during each academic year, the conclusion of this season marks the end of a seven-year journey for 13 members of the team.

The 51st running of the Granby Road Race is returning to May! After a few years of the race being held in September, the Granby Road Race Committee is excited to announce that in less than three months, the race will return to the first Saturday in May.

Edward J. Pelczar, Jr., “Jay,” 42, of Granby, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 24, at St. Francis Hospital.
On Feb. 10 the Granby Girls Basketball team beat Somers high school in double overtime and secured the first ever NCCC conference championship for the school and program.
At its meeting on Feb. 15, the Board of Finance reviewed all available projections for revenue and expenses as known at that time. Acknowledging both the increase in costs of operating, as we all are experiencing at home, and the tight finances many families continue to experience, the BOF narrowed its focus to limiting the upcoming FY23 overall budget to an increase in the mill rate of 1 percent.
Those were just a few of the responsibilities dominating the minds of students at GMHS a mere couple of weeks ago.
As I write this, the thermometer is having trouble reaching 20 after dipping close to zero last night. The ice throughout the woods and trails makes hikes without micro-spikes downright dangerous. But, spring springs eternal! By the time you read this, a drive around Granby will reveal the buckets hung and sap tanks filling, and maybe steam rising from a sugar house or two.
