Should voters have a vote on how to vote?

The COVID-19 virus pandemic is now a primary intervenor in our 2020, and possibly 2022, elections rather than a foreign entity. In fact, if the virus blame can be squarely placed on China, rather than a collusion with Russia, then that changes the landscape for the U.S. Presidential election.

Granby Community Fund

You may have read that the Hartford Foundation has created 29 new funds, one for each of the towns in our region, as part of its Greater Together program. Each of the new funds is called a “community fund.”

Ban fur sales

The North American fur industry kills 4 million animals every year, according to Humane Society International. Connecticut can do its part to end this barbarism by following California’s lead and banning fur sales and manufacturing.

Bear-resistant barrels

Regarding the April 2020 issue of The Granby Drummer, page 3, Minutes of the March 2, 2020 BOS meeting, I see that 54 bear-resistant trash barrels will cost $13,708.

Fat budget needs a diet

As with any family, a budget sometimes needs to be amended based on internal or external fiscal factors. I would like to challenge each of the departments to consider a reduction of two percent to their budgets not by simply trying to meet the current plus-2 percent budget-increase target.

50th anniversary coverage

The Drummer continues to impress me with the town information it brings to readers. I read the beginning of your 50 year coverage of town events, budgets and economic information and will read the rest.

SBP Park House great for gatherings

The Gathering Room is a great place to get everyone together.  Granby Recreation and Leisure Services is not just for youth sports. In the last year, we have rented the Gathering Room at Salmon Brook Park for two graduation parties and a birthday party.

Oppose fur industry

The fur industry is cruel and unnecessary. Readers should contact their state legislators and urge them to support a ban on fur manufacturing and sales in Connecticut—similar to the one recently passed in California.

Thank you for support

The Granby Community Fund Board of Directors thanks the Granby townspeople for their support of our 2019 Annual campaign. The Granby Community Fund, a 501(c)3 organization since 1960, meets monthly, preparing for a town-wide mailing to support the many valuable programs and services offered to our local citizens.

Farewell

I am writing to let you know that I’ll be retiring as your Building Official in January. As I’m writing this before Thanksgiving I’ve been counting my blessings and thinking about how lucky I’ve been to have landed here in Granby for the last 12 years.
