The PTO Executive Board, as well as our committee chairs and members, are hard at work to make sure that the 2018-19 school year is full of fun, exciting programming and educational experiences for PreK–Grade 5 students and their families. We need your help to ensure our success.
The Granby Board of Selectmen is taking applications for a 2018-2019 Student Liaison who will attend the regular meetings (first and third Mondays of the month) and report on happenings at the high school as well as get an education in the town government.
The Granby Public Schools proudly recognized James Janski as the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year during closing ceremonies on June 21.
This past week Granby Memorial High School hosted its 10-year New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation visit. The high school staff did a terrific job preparing for this important school improvement visit.
Eight youths from Granby 4-H along with one leader, Rachael Manzer, successfully launched three experiments into space on a NASA rocket. The three experiments included “Bees in Space” that launched honeycombs, “Rubber Bands in Space,” and “Gallium in Space,” all of which were proposed by 4-Hers themselves.
A free seminar on paying for college will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Gathering Room at the Recreation Center in Salmon Brook Park.
For those new to Granby, or new to the school system, the PTO serves the students, their families and school staff at Kelly Lane Primary School (grades Pre-K-2) and Wells Road Intermediate School (grades 3-5).
The summer flew by and school started a week earlier this year, breaking the tradition of starting after Labor Day. By the time this article is published, teachers will have returned to work and received professional development training and students will have already had a week of classes.
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture and the Granby Public Schools have been awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) as part of an effort to bring nutritious local foods into schools and create new economic opportunities for farmers. As part of the USDA nationwide Farm to School Program, the $5.2 million in grants will impact 6,000 schools and 2.8 million students.

As part of the GEF’s mission is to encourage educational excellence, the Foundation is thrilled to recognize the efforts of these individuals.
