Fall Fundraisers

With cooler temperatures and changing leaves, there’s no denying that fall is in full swing and so is your Granby PTO. The PTO held its major fundraiser, for the 2018-19 school year, a combined Jog-a-Thon/Fall Fest, on Oct. 20. We will have more information regarding the fundraiser in the December issue of the Drummer, but for now we’d like to simply say “Thank You” to all of our volunteers, vendors, families and sponsors for their contributions and assistance in making the day a success.

We invite you to mark your calendars for some creepy, crawly fun. The PTO will once again be hosting an evening with Riverside Reptiles on Friday, Nov. 9, in the Kelly Lane gymnasium. The cafetorium will be open in advance of the program and families are invited to bring snacks or dinner from home. Light refreshments will also be available courtesy of the PTO. This event is free and fun for all ages. For more information, please check out the Family Activities Section of our PTO website (granbypto.org).

Looking for some affordable family fun this fall and winter? We are excited to share that we have partnered with the XL Center to bring you discounted tickets to a number of events. Check out Marvel Universe Live on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m.; Monster Jam on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m.; or the Harlem Globetrotters on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $20-$25, depending on the show and seats you choose. To purchase tickets for Marvel Universe, please use the following link: group.m.atics.events/group/Granbypto1. To purchase tickets for Monster Jam and/or the Harlem Globetrotters, please use the following link: https://group.m.atics.events/group/Granbypto2. The links can also be found under the Family Activities Section of the PTO website. Please note that anyone is able to purchase these tickets, not just Kelly and Wells families, and every purchase helps support the PTO.

The PTO is proud to announce that it will be sponsoring a week-long residency by hip hop performer Austin Dailey (aka Red Supreme) at each of Kelly Lane and Wells Road Schools in January 2019. During his time at the schools, Dailey will be instructing students in the art of hip hop dance with lessons that also touch upon the importance of sleep, healthy eating, exercise, kindness and inclusivity as part of a healthy lifestyle. Dailey will also teach each grade their own unique hip hop routines. Those routines will be shared at a family dance night (each school will have their own) at which Dailey will DJ and his dance troupe will perform. Check out our PTO website in the coming months for more details about this exciting cultural arts program for our students!

A few reminders

• Please send us your Geissler’s receipts over $35! Either send them to school with your student; drop them in the front office at Kelly or Wells; or mail them to: Granby PTO, P.O. Box 798, Granby, CT 06035. These dollars really add up—we received over $12,000 back from Geissler’s last year—so please keep sending in your receipts. You don’t need to have a student in our schools to participate in this amazing give back program.

• When you shop on Amazon (as most of us do, especially with the approaching holidays), please do so through Amazon Smile (amazonsmile.com) and identify “Parent Teachers Organization Granby” as your charity of choice. We will earn 0.5 percent back with every purchase.

• If you haven’t yet done so, please sign up for “Bear Calls,” our online family directory. It’s quick to register and easy to use. For directions, please visit our website, granbypto.org
