Holcomb Farm was once again a key stop on the Granby Open Farm day route, organized by the Granby Agricultural Commission, and the many who stopped by enjoyed great hands-on experiences.
Do you like to eat fresh, local food, expertly prepared by a local chef? Do you like buying exciting, one-of-a-kind items? Do you like knowing that your money will help ensure that others, less fortunate than you, are able to eat fresh, local produce?
The growing season is here! It always sounds fun to join the club of “Local Foodies”, but there’s work to be done, kids’ activities, let’s face it, LIFE.
There are no slow seasons at Holcomb Farm, but summertime does offer the chance to share the fruits of our labors in a number of ways.
Summer has been moving by fast this year, and I hope everyone has been enjoying farm fresh fruits and veggies and grilling out as much as possible. I have been frequenting Holcomb Farm and The Garlic Farm to get the flavorful ingredients for wonderful tomato salads and vegetable dishes.
Open Farm Day is like a pub-crawl except with less beer and more goats—but there is wine! The only thing more fun than visiting one farm is exploring up to a dozen in one day, catching exclusive events at each.
Besides the horses, laying hens were our first foray into livestock. They are for lots of people.
The Friends of Holcomb Farm celebrated at its Annual Members’ meeting with a ribbon cutting at the refurbished CSA barn, a pie contest, ice cream and reports of another successful year for the nonprofit. With a mission to protect Tudor and Laura Holcomb’s gift of this farm to the Town of Granby, the board reported on successful farming programs, growing Fresh Access partnerships to provide fresh produce to people otherwise without access, and ongoing land stewardship to provide greater public access to the meadows and trails.
