In 1887, Frederick H. Cossitt died in New York City. The passing of one who had lived his childhood in Granby and then moved on was not much of an event of note in a town that had seen many of its children leave for greener pastures in the 1820s and 1830s.
It is difficult to imagine a time without computers or smartphones. I recall heading to college with an electric typewriter feeling fortunate as typing would be so much easier than with a manual machine.
Granby Memorial High School Performing Arts is pleased to announce their fall production of James and the Giant Peach on Nov. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.

Congratulations to Granby DPW’s Robbie Bahre. On Oct. 10, Bahre participated in the CASHO-CIRMA 2019 Snow Plow Safety Roadeo and took first place in the Tandem/Tri-axle division.
Eleven different races will be decided by the Nov. 5 municipal election including First Selectman, Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Board of Education, Board of Assessment Appeals, Planning and Zoning, Zoning Board of Appeals and Town Moderator.
In the late 1960s, CPPAC* didn’t exist; there was no financial model to predict and prepare for capital expenditures or taxes. Granby’s population was booming, and the schools weren’t keeping pace. Granby Memorial High School was overcrowded and on the brink of losing accreditation, mainly because of a lack of classrooms and support infrastructure.
