With summer in high gear, the YMCA of Greater Hartford’s Phones Down, Eyes Up campaign reminds parents to stay vigilant when children are near or in water. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death for children.
On June 3, as part of Connecticut Trails Day Weekend, the Granby Land Trust hosted Michael Wojtech, author of Bark: A Field Guide to Trees of the Northeast, for a guided walk on the GLT’s Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve in North Granby.

The Granby Land Trust (GLT) is excited to announce that its new Emery/Hart Trail to the Crag Mountain Lookout is now open. This is an incredible addition to the Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve trail system, with spectacular views to the south, east and west.
The 2025 Granby Road Race on May 3 drew 334 runners and countless supporters for a spirited morning that celebrated fitness, community and giving back. Organized by the Farmington Valley YMCA and a dedicated team of volunteers, this beloved event continues to grow in impact and tradition, supporting the YMCA’s Annual Campaign to ensure that everyone has access to vital programs and services regardless of financial circumstance.
Independence Day: Friday, July 4, is a holiday for USA/Paine’s. All Friday trash pickups will be delayed by one day.

Residents may not be aware that the Town of Granby operates a Housing Rehabilitation program funded by Community Development Block Grant funds. Under this program, the town can provide Granby homeowners who are of low or moderate income, with a no-interest loan to pay for a wide variety of home repairs.
Check Town of Granby website or call Town Manager’s office to verify date, time, location, and get information on how to participate on Zoom, if needed.
Granby may not be as affected by drug use and addiction as some other towns, but there is no denying that it exists here, in both youth and adult populations. It impacts not just the individuals but also families and the community. The Community Law Enforcement Addiction Recovery Program, CLEAR, has been created to address this problem.

Paine’s takes great pride in serving the town of Granby’s municipal curbside waste and recycling collection. The town has been a valued partner for many years. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, USA Waste and Recycling, in partnership with Paine’s, assumed operations of Granby’s municipal waste and recycling collection.

Cheri Burke spends her weekends at hockey rinks. She is the mother of four high-level ice hockey players, ages 14 to 20. While Burke herself does not skate, she is the lynch pin in the family’s love affair with this action-packed, boisterous sport.
