Granby Lions award scholarships

The Granby Lions awarded $2,500 scholarships to three Granby Memorial High School 2021 graduates: Ty de los Reyes, attending Central Connecticut State University; Madison Kennedy, attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and Mark McWhirter, attending the University of Connecticut.

Team spirit is alive in Granby

In 2018 Ashley Puglise entered GMHS as a freshman. After years of being on the Bearcats elementary- and middle-school-aged cheer squad, it made sense for her to continue cheering at the high school level.

GRANBY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

• Kindergarten enrollment is continually being monitored. There are currently 122 students registered with seven Open Choice slots. If all seven Open Choice students register, the number will be 129 (125 projected). 

Granby Educators Honored

Throughout the 2020-2021 school year donations were made to the Granby Education Foundation (GEF) in honor of the educators shown below. As part of the GEF’s mission is to encourage educational excellence, the Foundation is thrilled to recognize the efforts of these individuals.

RTC scholarship awarded

At its meeting on July 22, the Granby Republican Town Committee awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jordan Rijkse, a 2021 graduate of Granby Memorial High School who demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership and community involvement. Jordan will attend Boston College this fall to study biology and pre-medicine.

Freshman year of college during COVID-19

The Granby Memorial High School class of 2020 had its senior year cut short as the pandemic first surged in March, now over a year-and-a-half ago. Much of that class are now entering sophomore year of college, having started freshman year at the height of the pandemic in the fall of 2020.
