We opened the doors to the best school district in the State of Connecticut on Aug. 26. I have visited all of the schools several times since the start of the school year and it is so good to see students and staff back in the buildings, engaged and settling into routines. I have been impressed by the ability of staff and students to immediately start engaging in learning activities.

The Granby Board of Education is in the final stages of developing its four-year strategic plan. This strategic plan will formalize the district’s vision, goals and strategic priorities and will have a foundation in the Board of Education goals that were developed last September:

Student Learning and Achievement: Improve student achievement, academic performance and opportunity at all grade levels and for all ability levels and decrease achievement gaps on the path to college and career readiness.

Community Engagement: Enhance communication and build trusting relationships with all stakeholders.

Safety and Social Emotional Well-Being: Foster a safe and positive social emotional environment for everyone.

Budget Development and Fiscal Management: Practice responsible budget development and management through transparency and maximize available financial resources through a balance of fiscal discipline and innovative educational investments.

Embracing Diversity: Adopt and promote strong instructional, curricular and leadership practices that embrace and advance knowledge and acceptance of human diversity and that eliminate bias.

Professional Learning: Develop the instructional skills and strategies of our teaching staff through ongoing, meaningful and systemic professional learning opportunities.

At its first meeting in September, the Granby Board of Education approved the Granby Public Schools’ Vision of a Graduate (VOG), which is also another foundation of the Board of Education’s strategic plan. Our Vision of a Graduate sets forth the 21st Century skills that we believe our students should embody and exemplify by the time they graduate from high school. The VOG is shown below.

Granby students continue to excel in all areas. The students in the Granby Public Schools are the heart and soul of the school system. Each day, from our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, students engage in amazing learning experiences at Kelly Lane Primary School, Wells Road Intermediate School, Granby Memorial Middle School, and Granby Memorial High School. I invite you to visit the Granby Public Schools’ website at granbyschools.org for events that you and your family may like to attend.

A Superintendent Community Conversation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. at via Zoom. Please contact Linda Powell at powelll@granbyschools.org if you would like to register for this conversation.
