When you are a farmer, November is a good time to take stock of the past growing season, and the summer of 2018 was a tough one.
Several years ago, and for my entire life before that, I thought of food as something to satisfy hunger. Sometimes I thought of it as entertainment; think: a meal on an airplane, popcorn at the movie theater.
Holcomb Farm was once again a key stop on the Granby Open Farm day route, organized by the Granby Agricultural Commission, and the many who stopped by enjoyed great hands-on experiences.
Do you like to eat fresh, local food, expertly prepared by a local chef? Do you like buying exciting, one-of-a-kind items? Do you like knowing that your money will help ensure that others, less fortunate than you, are able to eat fresh, local produce?
Families with small children enjoyed the view from Farmer Joe’s tractor.
Granby’s annual Open Farm Day, held Sept. 15, was a perfect opportunity to get up close with the farm animals in town. This youngster was captivated by the calves at House of Hayes.
Sign-up night for Granby 4-H is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Holcomb Farm in West Granby.
The growing season is here! It always sounds fun to join the club of “Local Foodies”, but there’s work to be done, kids’ activities, let’s face it, LIFE.
There are no slow seasons at Holcomb Farm, but summertime does offer the chance to share the fruits of our labors in a number of ways.
