Earth Day celebrated with a hike

Nearly 50 people turned out to celebrate Earth Day with the Granby Land Trust, as GLT Board Members Jen Plourde and Eric Lukingbeal conducted a hike on the trails of the GLT’s new, 150-acre Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve on Silver Street in North Granby. Hikers will have another opportunity to take a family-friendly, guided hike of the property on Connecticut Trails Day, June 3, at 1 p.m. Visit GranbyLandTrust.org for details.

Sen. Kissel to seek re-election

Sen. John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) will seek re-election to the 7th Senatorial District seat, which includes East Granby, Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor Locks and portions of Granby and Windsor. He was unanimously endorsed at the local Republican convention.

Wilson’s warblers sighted at GLT bird walk

Despite the cloudy skies and chilly temperatures, the Granby Land Trust had a good turnout (in terms of both humans and birds) for its bird walk on May 13. Walk leader John Weeks reports: “Things got off to a nice start, with a pair of Redstarts engaged in a colorful dogfight right before our eyes, to everyone’s amusement.

Camera Club holds annual exhibit

The Granby Public Library is featuring the 12th annual Granby Camera Club photo exhibit from June 1 to 28. The club was founded 24 years ago to pursue photography as an art form and welcomes all who share a passion to learn, create and enjoy the beauty of photography.

Vaughan withdraws proposal for 107 East Street

Town Manager John Ward received a letter on April 3 from resident Tom Vaughan withdrawing his proposal for an organic dairy farm to be developed at 107 East Street. He cited a lack of action from the Board of Selectmen and the fact that his family was being exposed to unpleasant comments and actions from town residents, both in person and on social media.
