Granby 4-H sign-up night is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Holcomb Farm Workshop. This open house from 7 to 8 p.m. will introduce the youth-officer team and project groups available for the 2023-24 program year.

Jose Antonio Martinez, Jr. started his career with the Granby Police Department on Wednesday, Feb. 18. He received his new badge at a swearing in ceremony attended by family, friends and his new co-workers. Officer Martinez is not new to law enforcement. Community Garden Reservations Due

By Jim Glenney Believe it or not, it’s time to reserve a garden plot. The Granby community gardens are located at Ahrens Park on Hungary Road. The gardens are divided into organic and conventional sections. Water is supplied by a well.  The cost is $5 for a 20×20 foot plot and $10 for a 20×40 foot plot.  Last year’s gardeners wishing to reserve the same plots need to submit payment by April 20. BOE faces budget shortfall By Kim Becker The Board of Education listened with concern as Harry Traver, Business Manager, outlined shortfalls in the current budget. A bill was recently introduced to the Connecticut General Assembly that would outlaw drivers from holding pets on their laps. This is another form of distracted driving such as texting and is dangerous to the driver, other motorists, and the pets themselves. I’m not sure we need a law for this behavior but I am definitely in favor of harnessing dogs to keep everybody safer.
