Effective May 1, Granby will be part of the Connecticut Mattress Recycling Program. Recycling will be a seamless transition for residents of Granby. Mattresses and box springs will continue to be accepted at the Granby Transfer Station during hours of operation, be sent off for recycling just as they have been since July of 2012. The biggest change is that mattresses and box springs will be accepted free-of-charge. The state law now requires that a recycling fee be charged by retailers upon the purchase of a new mattress or box spring. This fee will cover the costs of transporting and recycling mattresses and box springs for participating towns. There are some exclusions to the law so please check the Town of Granby website (www.granby-ct.gov) or call 860-653-8960 for details.
Monday, May 25, Memorial Day is a holiday for Paine’s Inc. and all trash/recycling pickups will be delayed by one day the week of the holiday.
A paper-shredding event will be held at 52 North Granby Road from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 16. Proof of Granby residency is required. Documents are shredded onsite. Plastic bags cannot go into the shredder. Please bring items in paper bags or in containers that can be emptied into the shredding barrels.
