Celebrating 100 days

February was a busy month for the Granby Public Schools. Feb. 3 was Job Shadow Day at the high school. Eighty-five students participated and attended a variety of businesses and organizations including financial services, insurance, town and state government offices, veterinarians, auto body shops, builders, and health care organizations.

Budget Time

Now through April, the Granby Board of Education’s top priority is budgeting for the 2025 – 2026 school year.

GMHS Drama Goes Pink: Don’t Miss Legally Blonde

Granby Memorial High School’s Dramatic Arts program is gearing up to wow audiences with its spring production of Legally Blonde: The Musical, running March 14 through 16.

New initiative: School Resource Officer

In December, Granby Police Chief Scott Sansom and the Superintendent of Schools proposed that the board of education consider adding a School Resource Officer (SRO) to Granby Public Schools for the 2025-26 school year. An SRO is a sworn law enforcement officer who works full-time in a school setting to enhance the safety of students and staff.

Security Resource Officer and other support strategies

At the beginning of January, the Granby School District sent out a district-wide survey regarding adding a potential Security Resource Officer (SRO), a sworn law enforcement officer who works full time in the schools to enhance the safety of our students and staff.

GMHS dual enrollment journalism course

Granby Memorial High School and Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) are collaborating to create a new dual enrollment journalism course for high school students. This class offers a collegiate-level understanding of journalism by mirroring CCSU’s Journalism 200 course.

Granby Horse Council Scholarship

The Granby Horse Council offers a $700 scholarship to a high school senior planning to attend a university, college or junior college in at least a two-year program in the field of animal studies. Accepted fields include, but are not limited to, pre-veterinary school, veterinary technician or assistant, equine studies, stable management, animal husbandry or equine assisted therapy.

Special events and recognitions for Veterans Day

On Nov. 11, veterans were recognized and celebrated across the district for their service to our country. Students at Kelly Lane Primary School and Wells Road Intermediate School welcomed family members and neighbors to take part in school-wide gatherings to learn the importance of the holiday and to celebrate our veterans.
