March 15 was a special day for Granby Memorial High School senior Elizabeth Squier as she signed her commitment letter to Eastern Connecticut State University. Elizabeth was admitted not only for her academic standing, but also for her considerable volleyball skills.
Chase Alexander, a student at Granby Memorial High School, placed third in the Connecticut Press Club’s annual writing competition.The high school contest is run in conjunction with the Connecticut Press Club’s professional contest. The entries were judged by communications professionals who are members of the press club.
Granby is known and loved as an extraordinary small town with over 30 farms, an abundance of nature trails and an interdependent community rich in service to others. Why not use Granby’s impressive assets as resources and classrooms? This bold concept is becoming a reality as a new preschool infuses the town’s longstanding values of farm, nature and community with education for young children.
Maya Angelou once said: “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song”. Like a bird who never clipped its wings, Angelou soared above the clouds to become a rainbow in many people’s lives. Through her poems and speeches, she uplifted an entire generation and her legacy continues on.
During the last week of January, Valley Pre-School students brought back a beloved tradition—the return of ice sculptures. At home, students created their own structures made of ice and other materials and brought them to school to create a class sculpture.

Imagine being a 10-year-old trekking through 1,000 miles of desert without your friends, family or supplies. You don’t know what the future holds for you, whether that may be crossing the crocodile-infested Gobi River or having to avoid being caught in the middle of gunfire.
Granby topped Cromwell 59-48 on March 15 in the semifinal round of the state tournament, earning them a spot in the CIAC 2022 Division IV State Championship game at Mohegan Sun on March 20.
The 8th Grade Boys Granby Travel Basketball won the NCC Travel Basketball Division II Championship against Ellington on March 6 at Windsor Locks High School. The team ended the season with a perfect 18-0 record.
