The American Legion and Shannon-Shattuck Post 182—a shared mission

Whether family members, relatives, friends or neighbors, most of us know someone who wore or continues to proudly wear the uniform of one of the five military branches—six with Space Force, of the U.S. Armed Forces. Spanning the decades, men and women have heroically and honorably served our country, with too many sadly encountering casualties leading to disability, or loss of life—the highest sacrifice of all.

And then there were three

Last month I discussed two native Granby residents, Harry Wilcox and William Case as having served in the Spanish-American War in 1898. They were born in Granby, but lived outside of Granby after the war.

Winged Euonymus / Burning Bush Euonymus alatus

A colorful, apparently innocuous shrub that can grow over 10 or 15 feet tall, the winged euonymus displays wild fall color ranging from light pink to fire red. In March, before leaves sprout, it’s easily identified by unusual “wings” on side branches.

Childhood Memories of Spring

When I was a little girl, I knew it was spring when I no longer had to wear my snow pants and red rubber boots or brown rubbers. It felt glorious! Soon, I knew, I would see the robins returning.
