Trash Holiday: Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4, will be a holiday for Paine’s. All trash/recycling pickups after the holiday will be delayed by one day.
With the support of a State of Connecticut Small Farm Viability Grant, funds raised by the Friends of Holcomb Farm, and—most critically—hundreds of hours of volunteer time, renovation of the CSA Barn is well underway and on schedule for completion in advance of the annual opening of the Holcomb Farm CSA and Farm Store.
Friday, Aug. 17, is the date for this year’s Granby UNICO Charity Golf Tournament, at Blue Fox Run in Avon featuring world long-drive competitor Michael “Moose” Watson.

The Granby Senior Center Civic Engagement Education Team has engaged a private rose/history tour at Elizabeth Park on Wed., June 20. The tour will cover all major gardens maintained by the Conservancy.
Nearly 50 people turned out to celebrate Earth Day with the Granby Land Trust, as GLT Board Members Jen Plourde and Eric Lukingbeal conducted a hike on the trails of the GLT’s new, 150-acre Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve on Silver Street in North Granby. Hikers will have another opportunity to take a family-friendly, guided hike of the property on Connecticut Trails Day, June 3, at 1 p.m. Visit GranbyLandTrust.org for details.
Sen. John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) will seek re-election to the 7th Senatorial District seat, which includes East Granby, Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor Locks and portions of Granby and Windsor. He was unanimously endorsed at the local Republican convention.
Despite the cloudy skies and chilly temperatures, the Granby Land Trust had a good turnout (in terms of both humans and birds) for its bird walk on May 13. Walk leader John Weeks reports: “Things got off to a nice start, with a pair of Redstarts engaged in a colorful dogfight right before our eyes, to everyone’s amusement.
