In August as I prepare this column, the start of the school year is fast approaching and we are looking forward to welcoming our school community back to teaching and learning.
The full May and June calendars and the buzz of excitement from our students tells us that the end of the school year is approaching. The activities and enthusiasm of our students and staff are high energy right now as everyone is focusing on exciting end-of-year activities, spring sports, field trips, prom, concerts, senior outings and awards celebrations.
National Teacher Appreciation is a week-long celebration in recognition of teachers and the contributions they make to education and society. It is held in the first full week each May to provide an opportunity for students, their parents and school administrators to show appreciation and to acknowledge the significant impact educators have on students, schools and communities.
On Feb. 9, Wells Road and Granby Middle School students joined the Granby Men’s Breakfast Group to share their passion for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education and to highlight some of the engaging projects underway in our Library Makerspaces and Coding and Computer Science Clubs. As you know, this fall Granby Public Schools identified two priorities for the year: Maximize student growth and achievement and improve our school community communications.
A sincere thank you to everyone who participated in the district’s communications surveys and focus groups. Your feedback is critical to our work on the first goal for the school year.
With the school year almost over, we still have many concerts, award programs, dance/prom, and other exciting events to culminate an incredible school year.
I want to thank the entire Granby community for supporting us this year as we celebrate our 100th day of school; over half the school year is complete. Students in the Granby Public Schools continue to excel and the staff continues to work tirelessly to assist our students achieve their highest academic potential and social/emotional development.
During December and January we welcomed the community into the Granby Memorial High School auditorium for high school and middle school band and choral concerts. We are extremely proud of our students and staff for their outstanding performances. The music programs in our schools truly have a tremendous impact on students’ growth and development.
It is hard to believe that the 2022–23 school year is almost halfway complete.
