Full Speed Ahead with our Goals

As you know, this fall Granby Public Schools identified two priorities for the year: Maximize student growth and achievement and improve our school community communications.

These two goals have provided a laser focus to our work in all four schools. We are hard at work to realize our goals for every child. Please continue to follow our progress by visiting the Granby Public Schools website. Our new “community tab” will provide up-to-date information.

Please continue to send any questions you may have to AskGPS@granbyschools.org and keep an eye on our new blog posts to see questions for your fellow community members.

Plus One Budget Proposal

On Dec. 20, 2023, the Plus One Budget for 2024-2025 school year was presented to the Granby Board of Education. The Plus One Budget projects the district’s operating budget, quality and diversity fund spending and capital improvement needs over the next five years. The Plus One budget communicates the district’s current challenges and priorities as we work to develop a final budget in March.

The Plus One projection is used by the Board of Finance (BOF) to establish budget guidelines and long-range financial planning. The Board of Education, Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance met for the Three Board Meeting on January 16 to share budget needs and collaborate to provide a responsible budget to the town of Granby. The BOF will most likely adopt a budget guideline later this month after the Governor presents his budget.

The projected Plus One Budget request for 2024-2025 is 6.43 percent over current operating costs. It introduces no new initiatives or programs. Granby Public Schools face a number of budget challenges next year. Just as you are experiencing in your household budgets, the school district is challenged by inflation rates and rising costs of fuel, electricity and general supplies. Our contractual obligations account for more than 72 percent of all spending. This impact is an increase of 4.34 percent. In addition, special education costs for personnel and out-of-district tuition and transportation results in a 2.43 percent increase over last year.
