Granby elects new officials

Enthusiastic candidates and hardworking supporters motivated many new voters to go to the polls on Nov. 2. Detailed results for the election are available on the Secretary of State’s website.

Making the 9-1-1 call

Calling 911 for a medical emergency can be stressful for the patient, the family members or the bystanders who want to help during a chaotic time. While there are occasions when calling 911 is the right call to make—such as a fall that leaves someone unconscious, an overdose of prescription medications or illicit substances, uncontrolled bleeding, or trouble breathing— there are times when it might not be so obvious.

Resignations and Appointments to be considered

The board voted (5-0-0) to approve the appointment of Mark Neumann to the Affordable Housing Plan Committee.
The board voted (5-0-0) to approve the appointment of Erica Robertson to the board of the Farmington Valley Health District.

Pet food drive set for December 11

Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital will hold its 9th annual pet food drive on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dog and cat food donations will go directly to local food pantries, shelters and rescues.

It is the time of year when homeowners are looking for alternative ways to heat their homes. Wood-burning stoves can be a way to lower fuel costs and aid in heating a residence.

Concern over Kearns property

I am writing with concern that the Town of Granby is considering selling the former Kearns School property. With all the recent town real estate approvals for residential housing and apartments, it seems that town officials haven’t given enough thought and foresight to consider the additional families who will be moving to Granby.

Cultivated meat research

A significant portion of the agricultural-innovation funding announced at COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, should be directed toward cultivated-meat development. For those who aren’t familiar with the term, cultivated meat is grown from cells, without slaughter.
