Letter from Bentley

I am delighted that the Drummer December 2014 issue included the article in remembrance of Fred Wilhelm, Sr., written by Trish Percival and Rick Orluk. The article noted that the family planted a gingko tree, in memory of Fred. We thank John O’Brien, O’Brien Nurserymen, for finding and procuring this sapling for us and for helping the family plant it properly. His expertise helps ensure that this living memorial will remind us of Fred for decades to come. Bill Bentley […]

Letter from Heminway

George Tuffin I’m certain that many among us will eulogize George Tuffin. I’m one of them but am interested in emphasizing one not so evident thing that he did for Granby. Shortly after moving to Granby in 1960, George was elected by his neighbors to be Granby’s first unpaid first selectman under the town’s new charter. His selection may have been due in part to George seemingly knowing everyone in town and considering each of us his good friends. Being new to town a […]

These teams of three will be challenged with such questions by […]

A Meditation on Groundhog Day…

Source: farmersalmanac.com By nature writer Verlyn Klinkenborg “After months of profound hibernation, drugged by the body fat of summer and early fall, a groundhog sometimes, on a mild winter day, pokes its head out of its burrow. What it thinks, no one knows, but it always makes the right decision: it goes back to bed.” […]
