Music on Windsor Green

Music can be heard wafting through the center of Windsor from the Broad Street Green on Thursday nights in the summer. Concerts on the Green are a prime example of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit business organization.

Memorial Day Parade

On Monday, May 28, Granby’s Memorial Day parade will start at 10 a.m., on Bank Street and proceed through the center of town up Route 189 to the cemetery led by Parade Marshall James Hall. Veteran/military groups includes the American Legion and the Connecticut Air National Guard, emergency services, scouts, youth sports teams and clubs, and local bands including the Marquis of Granby Fife and Drum Corp and the GMHS band will march.

First Church strawberry supper is June 9

First Church of Granby is hosting its annual Strawberry Supper on Saturday, June 9, at 219 North Granby Road, in Cook Hall. There will be two sittings, at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will go towards the mission of First Church in the community and in the world.

Be part of Connecticut Trails Weekend

As part of the 2018 Connecticut Trails Weekend, the Friends of American Legion, Peoples State Forest and the Barkhamsted Historical Society will host a three-mile educational walk on Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. State Representative Bill Simanski will participate and he urges residents to join him. The meeting place will be the Nature Museum off Greenwood Road in Peoples State Forest, about one mile north of Pleasant Valley on East River Road.

Camera Club

The Granby Camera Club will meet on Monday, June 4, at the Senior Center at 7 p.m. There will be a scavenger hunt first and then photo-taking around the town center. There should be time for ice cream at Grassroots Creamery before returning to the Senior Center by 8:30 to share our best shots.

Valley Brook offers summer camps

Valley Brook Community Church is offering three camps this summer for children age 4 through 12. All camps are held at Valley Brook’s campus, 160 Granville Road (Route 189), North Granby.

New England Air Museum

Open Cockpit Day

The New England Air Museum will hold an Open Cockpit Day on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special activities include climb-aboard experiences in historic aircraft, flight simulators, hands-on Build and Fly Challenges, and much more. A variety of aircraft will be open for visitors including the WWII-era Republic P-47D, the Vietnam War-era Bell UH-1B “Huey” helicopter, as well as supersonic jet fighters including the North American F-100 Super Sabre jet fighter and the Lockheed F-104C Starfighter.

Women’s Breakfast

On Wednesday, June 6, the Granby Women’s Breakfast Group will hear local wildlife conservationist, Jason Hawley, talk on Connecticut Canids: Wolves in Connecticut. Breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m. with the program at 9 a.m. The group meets at the Granby Senior Center.
