Two Granby Rovers Soccer Club teams reigned supreme during the fall season.
Scott Rhoades, of Storrs, won the Marty and Don Wilmot Award for his acrylic painting, Kindred Spirits. The work depicting the giant moose and tiny turtle amid reflected autumnal glory earned the top prize at the 2025 Celebrating New England’s Natural Beauty Art Show hosted by the Granby Land Trust and the Granby Artists Association at Lost Acres Vineyard.

Sally (Carr) Smith, 89, of Granby, CT, beloved wife of the late Walter H. Smith, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Sally was born on July 7, 1936, In Winthrop, MA, daughter of the late Preston A. and Annette E. (Sears) Carr.
In her November 2024 article, Kim Pereira highlighted the career of Jayne Hyatt, a recent graduate of Granby Memorial High School who set a new volleyball record. Pereira’s article, GMHS volleyball player Jayne Hyatt achieves 1,000 “kills” was awarded second place in the Sports Specialty Articles category.
For more than three months in 2024, Faith Tyldsley shared with Drummer readers a primer on all things goat. For those who don’t already know, Granby and North Granby are home to a substantial number of goats.
Roger K. Hayes, 93, of North Granby and beloved husband of the late Freda E. (Nolan) Hayes, passed away peacefully on Oct. 11.
On Oct. 6, The Granby Board of Selectmen honored the town’s police and fire chiefs.
Donna Daye (Wynings) Fenton, 81, of Granby and formerly of Bloomfield, CT, beloved wife of 60 years to Stephen R. Fenton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in Holden, MA.
Granby Public Works Department employee Tom Matyseck placed second in the Connecticut Association of Street and Highway Officials (CASHO) Snowplow Rodeo on Oct. 9.
