Upcoming events

The major party conventions in Connecticut have concluded. There will be a Democratic primary on Tuesday Aug. 11, with early voting available from Aug. 3 to Aug. 9.

We are expecting the Democratic primary to include candidates for governor and for the 1st U.S. Congressional District. The party endorsed candidates are incumbent Ned Lamont for Governor and Luke Bronin for the 1st U.S. Congressional district. (John Larson is the incumbent in that race.)

At this time, there is no Republican primary scheduled for 2026, although this could change. Check our webpage (granby-ct.gov/274/Registrars-of-Voters) for up-to-date information about primaries and more details about potential petitioning candidates.

The deadline to change party affiliation and vote in a different party’s primary on Aug. 11 has passed. However, new voters and unaffiliated voters can register in a major party up until noon on Aug. 10 and vote in their new party’s primary.

You may register or make changes to your current registration online at the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s website or contact the Registrars’ office for other options. Party membership does not cost anything, nor are party members obligated to vote along party lines in general elections.

The General Election will be held on Nov. 3, with early voting from Oct. 19 to Nov. 1. There will be races for governor and the statewide “underticket” positions (secretary of the state, state treasurer, comptroller and attorney general.) Probate judge and the 62nd assembly seat are also up for election. All of Granby will be voting in these races.

There will also be elections for state senate seats. Granby’s district 1 is in CT senate district 7, and our district 2 is in CT senate district 8.

Poll workers are needed

The Registrar’s office has compiled an email list of poll workers and sent out a request for help for 2026 events. New poll workers are always welcome. Send us an email if you can help this year. Volunteer poll workers must be at least 16 years old and can choose to volunteer for a few hours to fit their schedules. One mandatory session of poll worker training is required to serve for each event. For more information, or to apply, contact the Registrars at: registrarofvoters@granby-ct.gov
